

Charles May Ellerbee, aged 80, passed away peacefully on the 24th of February, 2024, in Hampton, Virginia. Born under the summer sun of July 23, 1943, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, Charles sprinted through life with the zest of a young colt.
A master shipbuilder, Charles dedicated 43 years of service to the Newport News Shipyard, retiring in the year 2007. His work was not just a job but a testament to his skill and dedication to craftsmanship. Beyond his professional life, Charles was an avid gardener, his green thumb evident in the meticulous care he bestowed upon his lawn.
An athletic individual, Charles's love for running was only matched by his passion for the Dallas Cowboys. He was also a talented chef, having worked in high-end restaurants, and brought this culinary prowess into his home, much to the delight of his family and friends. Charles's love for animals was profound, and his companions, Muffy and Jack, were a source of great joy in his life.
A devout family man, Charles's commitment to his loved ones was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his heart's compass for 48 tender years, Nancy; his children, Chad (Rhonda), Roderick, Lisa (Kevin), Tracey, Rosita, and Rachel; his sister, Betty; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sudie Smoot and Allan Ellerbee, his children, Antonio, Randy, and Rochele, his siblings, Walter, Junior, Mildred, and James, and his cherished dog, Muffy.
A public visitation for Charles will be held Friday, March 1, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A funeral service will occur Friday, March 1, 2024, at 2:00 PM, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. An interment to follow the service will occur Friday, March 1, 2024, at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666.
Charles's life was a testament to his values of humility, respect, and persistence. His memory will be treasured and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
