Charles “Chuck” N. Gibson (89) peacefully passed on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. He was born in Masontown, West Virginia on February 3, 1930. He was a loving husband, father, Papaw, Great Papaw, and friend. Chuck was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and served as an electrical engineering technician for 20 years. He served our country in the Vietnam war. After retiring from the military, he worked at NASA Langley Research Center for 33 years and was a well-respected colleague. Before retiring, he was awarded the prestigious NASA Exceptional Service Medal for exceptional service in the electrical design, maintenance and integration for research and testing in support of NASA and Langley Research Center programs and projects. Upon retiring from NASA at 82 years of age, Chuck spent time with his wife, Virginia, his family, and his friends. He took pride in designing and building custom model trains and enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Chuck was a thoughtful, generous and loving man who cherished time with his family above all else. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gail and Mary Gibson; his brother, Oscar; and his sister, Eleanor. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his son, Charles II; his daughters Barbara
(Doug) and Brenda (Bob); 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Rev. Monsignor Walter Barrett. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
