On February 3, 1930, a fourth and last child was born to Alwin B. Scott and Viola T. Scott. They named him Robert Loften Scott. Eighty-five years later, on April 7, 2015, he left his earthly home to receive his heavenly reward. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two sisters, Elizabeth Causey and Helen Pearce and one brother, Alwin B. Scott, Jr. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Jessie Scott (mother of Robert Scott, Jr.).
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memory his loving wife, Jacqueline Scott; three sons, Robert L. Scott, Jr., Paul D. Reca, and James Kevin Reca (Robin); two daughters, Lecia A. Lynn and Karon F. McArthur. He was the proud “Papaw” of seven grandchildren, Steven L. Pierce (Pamela), Lauren Reca, Ashley Spruill, Lindsey Reca, Vanessa Pierce, Heather Norman (Brian), and Miles Spruill. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Seth J. Pierce and Abel G. Pierce. He is survived by four sisters-in-law, Joyce Crider, Darlene Verdin, Millie Bauer, and Ruth Deane and two brothers-in-law, George Deane and Gene Pearce. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as special friends, Don and Sue Smock, Bob, Rhea and Jack Linkous, and special neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Andrae Walker.
“Scott”, as he was affectionately called by all who knew him, served 30 years in the U.S. Air Force and attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, retiring in August 1980. While stationed at Langley AFB, he “moonlighted” at the Langley Bowling Lanes where he met his future wife, “Jackie.” There, he also made many other life-long friends. After retiring he worked at Langley Lanes, Century Lanes and then Circle Lanes, now called Sparetimes.
His main priority was his family, helping them in any way he could, whether it be advice, transportation, or moral support. He loved working in his yard, planting flowers, mainly roses, and growing strawberries for his buddy, Seth. Watching birds come to feast on the seeds he provided, as well as the squirrels eating peanuts and corn-on-the-cob, gave him many hours of pleasure. He will be sadly missed by “Eppy”, his cat.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held Friday, April 10, at 2:30 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
