Conrad William Gebhardt, 77, born December 16, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, lost his battle with cancer on March 2, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Hampton. He was a devoted husband of 53 years, loving father to his two children, and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and James Dina of New York; sister, Miriam Gerlipp of Long Island New York; and two grandsons, John Ross Cannon and William Ray Gebhardt. He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys Joan Gebhardt; daughter, Tammy Cannon; son, William Gebhardt; son-in-law, Larry Cannon; and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Gebhardt. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, Christina, and Travis; his great-grandchildren, Jason, Ivy, Braden, Logan; and numerous other family members and friends.
“Smokey”, as his friends knew him, was a master carpenter who learned his trade in the USAF during his 20 years of service starting in 1957. A veteran of the Vietnam War TSGT Gebhardt was proud of his service to our nation. Upon retirement, he worked for several home improvement companies before settling at Hatchett Home Improvement where he also retired. An avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed the great outdoors and working with his hands.
Family will receive friends from 12 PM to 1 PM on March 7, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Conrad's life will follow at 1 PM in the funeral home with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
