

Maurice is survived by his lovingly dedicated wife, Laura Smith of over 20 years; children, Leah Smith of Hampton, VA and Janel Bordley (Terrell) of Busan, Korea, Jason Ullman (Karla) of Harrisburg, PA, Gregory Ullman of Orlando, FL; mother Minnie Smith, special mom Gussie Simmons; siblings, Wanda Johnson, John Baker, Aaron Hudson (Gail), Brenda Hudson, all of Buffalo, NY, with a host of nieces and nephews; and grandchildren Audrey and Grayson. He is preceded in death by father and mother, Samuel Smith and Gaynell Smith, of Buffalo; and brother, Samuel E. Smith.
Maurice was born on June 3rd, 1959 in Buffalo, NY to Samuel and Gaynell Smith. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1976 and joined the U.S. Navy right after. He traveled the world with his numerous duty stations. He retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer with 26 years of faithful, dedicated service.
His children remember him as a loving, gentle, patient, driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. They will have many funny memories of traveling with their father and will never forget the amazing dancer and the love of music that he had.
Maurice will always be remembered for all the love and fun times he shared with his friends and family. He had a big heart and was a great listener. Maurice and Laura always gave great advice to the young adults who befriended them, especially T.J. and Maicha Hall. He will be missed dearly.
A celebration of David's life and inurnment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery in the fall.
