Doris Spivey Wells

Doris Spivey Wells passed away December 11, 2013 at the age of 93. She was a lifelong resident of Hampton and Newport News, VA. She was a dedicated wife and a wonderful mother to three sons. Doris graduated from Newport News High School in 1938 and was a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ollie J. Wells; brother, Sherwood Spivey; sister, Louise Moore; parents, Mattie Duck Spivey and Claude Spivey; and daughter-in-law, Diane Wells. She is survived by her sons, Donald Wells and wife, Roxanna, Dennis Wells and wife, Mary Jane, and Douglas Wells; and her sister, Anne Stover. Doris was blessed with five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank her neighbors for their loving care and meals shared with her during her stay at home. We also wish to thank the staff at Coliseum Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center for the care provided our mother.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church, with a celebration of Doris’ life to begin at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Ivy Memorial Baptist Church, Hampton, VA.
