Born in Pakse, Laos, Dung was raised in Vientiane where he developed a passion for both teaching and music. He was a principal and math teacher by day, and an avid guitarist and drummer with his band, Apache, in his spare time.
In November 1975, he and his family came to the United States, sponsored by the generous and caring community of the Central United Methodist Church in Hampton, Virginia. This has been his home since. He worked at Teledyne Hastings Instruments for over 40 years and continued to work until his passing.
His life was marked by his family, his Catholic faith and his service to others. Dung volunteered as an interpreter, assisting families in social and medical needs. He enjoyed fishing, good music (The Beatles, The Ventures, Santana), traveling the world, watching sports, 7-11 coffee, and above all else, his family.
Dung was an extremely loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Tuyet of Hampton, Virginia; his three daughters, Kim-Thoa and her husband Tri-Minh of Centreville, Virginia, Kim-Chi of Reston, Virginia, and Virginia and her husband Ronald of Portland, Oregon; and three grandchildren, Tobey, Mason and Quincy.
