Sherry, Jimmy, Glen, Walter Lee and Brooks,
I just learned of the passing of my cousin, Elwood.  I have such great memories of Camden and growing up out in the country at my grandparents house.  Elwood and I had some great adventures there.  Grandma used to cook us a big pot of beans and make rice pudding for us.  Aunt Carrie made some awesome pickles.  We used to sneak the salt shaker and go to the apple orchard and eat green apples.  Makes your teeth curl, almost.  Elwood was only one year older than I, but was usually the leader in our escapades.  We spent time down at Chantilly, too.  There was a great tire swing on a long metal cable in a very tall oak tree.  It was worth the mile walk.  There was a store there, too, so we could usually scrounge up enough money for a Pepsi.  Grandpa  taught us to cut firewood with a big crosscut saw.  The one Elwood had at his house.  Grandma made us a cute stuffed animal on her old Singer sewing machine.  Elwood had that, also.  When you see these things, remember me and Elwood.  Know we had some really fun times together.  I will miss my favorite cousin. I was saddened to read about Elwood's passing. My wife, Kim, daughter, 
Mackenzie and I volunteered for the past three years to bring the ministry to retirement living facilities and convalescent homes, and Elwood quickly became a very close and dear friend. He went with us to see the Gaither Homecoming Concert at the Hampton Coliseum, and he shared privately with me many of the trials and tribulations he was facing. He worked at Sears with one of the deacons from our church and, through him, we were further united in prayer and fellowship for one another.  You may want to know that on the last Sunday prior to his departing the Newport News area, Elwood made a profession and re-dedication of his faith and love for our Precious Saviour. Prior events that had occurred at The Hidenwood had saddened him, but he finally "let go" of those unfortunate trials of this world in which we live today. Elwood was a very proud man, yet he succombed to the peace that only The Holy Spirit can instill in our hearts.  Elwood and I tried to stay in touch over the phone after he re-located; yet, sadly enough, we lost contact with one another.  Too bad we never made the trip to Nags Head to do some fishing He wanted to show me his farms of which he spoke oftentimes. We also both shared our love and appreciation for the land and farming.  He "came alive": whenever we talked about such topics. Sometimes he just wanted "some company". I feel blessed to have been a part of his life, and he has been missed by the residents who made up our "Sunday Church"..He encouraged me personally as I have battled multiple myeloma cancer over the past three years. The first words out of his mouth were always directed at me in wanting to know how I was feeling.  Secondly, he absolutely adored Mackenzie, my ten-year-old daughter, and she wa rmed up to him, sometimes playing with him, putting "whoopie cushions" underneath his seat!!!!    
          Please accept our  condolences and prayers. The memories are precious and will never fade away. May God fill the emptiness in your hearts with a double exposure of His great love and peace........

Our deepest condolences at your loss.  I will always remember Elwoods support and friendship when I needed it most.

My condolences to the family, my prayers and blessings are with you.  I was so priviledged to meet Elwood at the YMCA where he visited almost daily while in Newport News. Our frendship led him to introduce me to the special girls in his life who came to our summer camp. Without meeting Elwood I would have never met the other wonderful people who were part of his life.  My heartfelt love is with you.

As Elwood's longtime friend and dentist,my wife and I would like to send our condolences and prayers to the entire family. He was a wonderful man. I know he will be missed by the entire family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family. God Bless.

My thoughts are with Elwood's family.  He was a wonderful person and a good friend to my father from the time they worked at Sears together.  He will be missed.

Words are hard to find for a man that was one of the best! He will be greatly missed! My condolences to his family and friends.

Sherry and Boys, even though he was my step-uncle, i always thought of him as my Uncle while growing up.  Even though we have all grown apart and away from each other, know that i am truly sorry for your loss at this time.  And I do love you all very much.  Prayers are with you.
