Emma Meiggs Long, 95, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 in Gloucester. She was a native of Granville County, NC. Emma was a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church, in Hampton and received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on December 29, 2012. She retired from Leggetts' Department Stores after 31 years of service.
Emma was preceded in death by her husbands, Ray H. Meiggs and Cecil C. Long, and her son, Richard R. Meiggs. She is survived by her sons, Robert E. Meiggs, III of Key West, FL, and Fred T. Meiggs and wife Florence of Gloucester, VA; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a celebration of Emma's life to follow at 11:00 am. A private interment will be at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or the church or charity of your choice.
