I'll always remember when he would come visit and I'd say, " Nice to see you". Smitty's reply would ALWAYS be, "It's nice to be seen."  His stories about football and the family business were fun to listen to...and how to cook chili.  You'll be missed, Smitty.  Glad to know you!  I think I'll eat at Bubba n Frank's today.

My name is Jeff Campbell(GR Campbell was my Dad). Your Granddaddy Ed was my great uncle. I 'm so sorry about your loss. Amy I don't know if you will remember me but I saw you when I would be at Uncle Ed's playing the guitar.

 Essie and I grew up together. He was one of my closest childhood friends and remain friends throughout life. In high school Essie loved cars and I was a motorhead with an old Ford. We had a bond. Out of high school Essie went to Newport News to build ships and I went to Detroit to make cars.  We were always close even though we were miles apart. Most of our conversations involved cars. Essie had a 65 maroon Corvette and I had a gold 65 Corvette.  I recently restored the car and painted it maroon. Essie followed the restoration with me with pictures I sent him.  Essie called to tell me he had suffered a heart attack and wanted to know if I would be at the Labor Day parade and class reunion  in Saltville this past year.  He said he would love to see that Corvette there. I told him the Corvette was in Phoenix Arizona but I would try to get it shipped back and bring it to the parade and he could drive it. The Corvette and I made it to the parade but Essie could not ride in it due to his condition what he did  see it and get his picture taken with it. It was an honor and a pleasure to see him and let him marvel in the car like the one he owned and loved. 

Essie was a good friend, classmate and teammate. It was always good to talk with him. So sorry to hear of his loss.
