Freddie Mae was born to Fred Wells and Oshia Ann Graham Starks on November 29, 1942 in Vance, Mississippi. The news of her birth traveled throughout the earth. At the age of sweet sixteen, Freddie Mae answered the call to become a breathtaking bride. Little did she know that she was in for a rambunctious ride!
Freddie Mae was a heavenly homemaker! You couldn’t tempt her to be unkempt. As a domestic engineer, she could fix anything around the house. Her celebrity children had chores, so they were never bored. In the home there were also strict rules. As a reward, these “chaps” splashed into the community pools to cool down from their hard labor camps.
Freddie Mae served in collaborative, compassionate, corporate, church, community, and creative capacities! She served on the Senior Usher Board. She sang with the Community Gospel Chorus under the direction of Aunt Doris Williams and Cousin Lorraine Williams. She also sang with the Zionettes under the direction of Muriel Miller. Freddie Mae served in various vineyards as an Evangelist Missionary and worked as a Para Educator in the public school system in multiple states. She was the epitome of Ecclesiastes 9:10a, “Whatsoever they hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” Freddie couldn’t rest until you were blessed. She was empty until you were full.
She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Wells; mother, Oshia Ann Graham Starks; brothers, Robert and James Crudup; nieces, Robin Crudup and Denise Brown; nephews, Junior and Larry Brown; and son, Colby Allen Perkins.
Freddie Mae is survived by her sister, Desie Marie Brown; son, Louie James Perkins; daughter, Carole Ann Walton (Michael); son, Walter Roosevelt Perkins Jr.; and Loren Jules Perkins (Angee). To celebrate her legacy is a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces; friends and fans; medical staff (hospitals, nursing homes, and caregivers); pastors and parishioners; and a cathedral of community platforms.
