Galen Moore III

He was born December 9, 1931 in Newport News, VA to the late Galen Hodges Moore, Jr and Florence Jean Cory Moore, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his daughter, Susan Varner of CA; sister, Mary Ann Moore Hood of Virginia; and ex-wife, Eva Marie Alexander of CA.

Sonny was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, service for 19 years including combat in the Vietnam War. He received the Good Conduct Medal with four stars, Vietnam Service Medal with three stars, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame. His last duty station was in California where he lived for many years until moving to Hampton, VA in 1990. He enjoyed researching family history and was a active in the Tidewater Genealogical Society.

He is survived by his daughter, Debby Posthuma of California; son, Steve Moore of California; his grandchildren, Michael Varner, Linnea Posthuma and Natalie Posthuma; and one great-grandson, Jared Alexander, all in California. He is additionally survived by his sister, Jean Moore Hibbard of Virginia; brother. Roger Moore of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to expressly thank the staff, nurses and doctors of Sanders Retirement Village (Heron Cove 1) for taking such wonderful care of Sonny for the past several years.

Services and burial will be conducted at a later date.
