

Harry was preceded in rest by his loving wife of 50 years, Evelyn DeRyder Becker and step-sister, Vera Valley.
Harry was a member of Wythe Presbyterian Church. He was educated in Erie and Benton Harbor, Michigan schools. In 1939, Harry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served overseas at the Panama Canal zone, North Africa and Italy as well as stateside. His last assignment was signal-radioman on the U.S. Army Transport “Columbie.” While stationed at Ft. Monroe, he met his future wife, Evelyn DeRyder, a Phoebus girl and telephone switchboard operator. They were wed September 3, 1943, at the Chapel of the Centurion, Ft. Monroe. At the end of World War II they settled in Hampton. They had four children; daughter, Marie Williams of Newport News, William H. Becker of El Segundo, CA, Lawrence Becker of Yorktown, and Robert Becker of Hampton; sister, Cora Hearn of Leesburg, FL; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Harry was employed by the NACA (NASA) starting at the NACA apprentice school in 1949 and worked there until his retirement in December 1973 with a total of 30 years of government service. He enjoyed many hobbies, woodworking, ham radio, auto mechanics, and volunteering at Hampton General Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a celebration of Harry’s life to begin at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
