

Harry Kenneth Butts, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on October 9, 2011. A native of Hampton, he graduated from Hampton High. After four years in the US Air Force, he returned to Newport News Shipbuilding as a data analyst. He retired from NNS in 1998 with 38 years of service.
Four decades of bowling led him to many leadership positions within the Hampton Roads Bowling Association including President of youth bowling and Director.
In 1994, Harry joined the American Legion Post 31, where his continuing dedication and abilities earned him the position of multi-term Commander as well as a two term 3rd District Commander.
He is survived by his son, Michael Butts and wife, Tabitha and grandson, Michael Butts Jr. of Hampton. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Sparrow and husband, Caleb of Florida; and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by mother, Esther F. Butts of Hampton; father, Thomas K. Butts of Maine; and son, Thomas Erik Butts of Hampton.
He will be deeply missed by fellow Legion members and the local bowling community.
Friends are invited to his Life Celebration at the American Legion Post 31 on Friday, October 21 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. A memorial service is planned for later this year.
In lieu of flowers, Harry requested memorial donations to American Legion Post 31, 4020 Victoria Blvd. Hampton, Va. 23669.
