He graduated Warwick High School where he was a three-sport letterman.
Survived by wife of 53 years, Beverly Girton Hatchett, of Hilton Village; sons, Bill and Kenny (wife Kristin); grandsons, Wilson and Chance; and sister, Evelyn Boone. Preceded in death by parents, Woodrow Wilson and Susie Walker Hatchett and brothers, Clarence and Grady.
Cecil served in the U.S. Air Force and Virginia Air National Guard, 1956-1997, where he achieved the rank of Senior Master Sargent. He was a rigger (X36) with Newport News Shipbuilding, 1956-1993. Cecil loved baseball, golf and W&M athletics. He played Legion ball with Post 25 and the Hampton Broadcasters of the Norfolk City League, earning a try-out with the New York Yankees. He coached youth baseball with several Peninsula teams. A member of Mariners Club and Eaglewood golf club where he played often with the NASA group, and First United Methodist Church-Fox Hill, where he was a faithful usher. Cecil was a strong family man, loved the outdoors, camping, and fishing.
A celebration of Cecil's life will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, July 30, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Brian Sixby.
