

Born on January 26, 1944, in Smyth County, Virginia, Harry was the son of the late Floyd E. and Frances M. Pruitt. In 1964, he moved to Newport News to attend the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School, beginning a remarkable 44-year career. Throughout his time there, he served as an Electrical Trade Instructor, X31 Supervisor, and Electrical Engineer, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and apprentices alike.
Harry was a man deeply devoted to his family and community. He is survived by his loving wife, Dot McNeil Pruitt; his son, Chris; his daughter, April Jones (Steve Jones); and his bonus daughter, Belinda Langston. He was a proud grandfather to Jared, Dalton, Emily, Mason, Cortney, Avery, Aubrey, Bradley, Meghan, Kyle, and Chad, and a cherished great-grandfather to Graysen, Easton, Asher, and Ivy. He is also survived by his sisters, Retta Connors (Ashley), and Lucy Jones, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Pruitt Wilson, and his brothers, Tyler, Eddie, and Donnie Pruitt.
Harry dedicated over 40 years to coaching and mentoring hundreds of young athletes in youth football and baseball, leaving a lasting impact on generations of families. He also found great pride and joy in NASCAR racing at Langley Speedway, where he worked alongside Edwards Motorsports.
Harry will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generous spirit, and his unwavering commitment to those he loved and served. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his guidance, mentorship, and kindness.
A visitation will be held at Parklawn Funeral Home in Hampton, Virginia, on April 16, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Poquoson Yacht Club on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with fellowship to follow.
In lieu of graveside flowers, donations may be made to a youth football or baseball program of your choice or to the Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad.
