Irvin graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and went to work for the family business, Mortgage Investment Company. There he met his future wife and his career brought them to Hampton Roads in 1973. Over the next twenty years he managed the insurance department of NationsBank, which became Bank of America. He then owned a Farmers Insurance Agency and enjoyed helping his clients before retiring in 2006.
Irvin’s love for being on the water began early in life, spending summers on the Northern Neck. Throughout his life he enjoyed his time on boats fishing, waterskiing, cruising, racing and restoring his Cheoy Lee, named Pleiades. He was a member of the Hampton Yacht Club and enjoyed the community of sailors.
He is lovingly remembered and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Rest easy, we have the watch.
A memorial gathering and reception will be held at Hampton Yacht Club on Saturday, April 6th at 12:00 pm. A private burial at Hollywood Ceremony in Richmond, VA will be at a later date.
