James Frederick Pike was born on August 3, 1955, in Newport News, to his loving parents, Fred C. Pike and Carlene Pike, and passed away on February 10, 2025. Jimmy spent 35 years as a QA Welding Inspector at NASA Langley, where his skill, precision, and steady professionalism earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him.
For 13 years, he owned and operated Dandy Haven Propeller, working side by side with his father‑in‑law, Jay Scott, and a close circle of friends who became like family. After closing the “Prop Shop,” Jimmy was invited to develop a welding program at Smithfield High School, where he went on to teach for three years. He poured his heart into his students—his “kids”—many of whom went on to build successful careers in the welding field. Teaching them was one of the great joys of his life.
Jimmy later accepted a position as a Welding Engineer at Acoustical Sheet Metal, bringing his deep knowledge, big personality, and unwavering work ethic to every project.
Outside of work, Jimmy loved golfing, spending time with his classic cars, and enjoying the simple pleasures that brought him peace and joy. Whether he was on the course or under the hood, he was in his element.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kimberly Pike; his daughter, Mary Watson; his beloved grandchildren, Sean Watson, Alyssa Watson, and Bryson Taylor; and his brother, Claude Slate.
Our loss is Heaven’s gain. Jimmy was saved by the blood of Jesus, and we hold fast to the promise that we will be united with him again.
Jimmy had a huge personality and an even bigger presence. He was loved by so many, and his influence—whether through his craftsmanship, his mentorship, or his laughter—will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 1:00pm for a Visitation at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Virginia, 23666. The Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00om, at the same location, with the interment and committal following the service, at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23606.
