It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, JoAnne Saville. She passed away December 19, 2014, after a long and very brave battle with Parkinson's disease.
JoAnne was born in New York City on February 1, 1930. In 1955, JoAnne married and later moved to the Virginia Peninsula, an area she loved. It is here she raised her three children, re-married, and resided for 52 years. In 2009, she moved to Leawood, Kansas where she could spend more time with her growing family. In her last five years, JoAnne was able to attend the weddings of her two cherished grandchildren, Stephanie and JR, in Jamaica and Dallas. She became "GG" or just "G” to her family. In the last four years, she was blessed with the arrivals of her three great-grandchildren.
During her life, JoAnne traveled extensively throughout the States, as well as the world. Her trips took her to Australia, Europe, South America, as well as several beautiful islands. She spent many happy days cruising on the James River and Chesapeake Bay on the "Tsunami" with her best friend Elmer, a Jack Russell Terrier, by her side.
JoAnne loved and participated in a wide range of sports and card games. These included bridge, poker, bowling, tennis, and especially golf, playing courses in Virginia and many exotic locations. When she wasn't playing golf, she was rooting for her favorite golf champion, Tiger Woods. A bridge aficionado, JoAnne always enjoyed spending time with her friends for some duplicate bridge; a hobby that began in the 1960's with her neighbors and continued throughout her life. Always artistic, JoAnne discovered another talent during her later years- stained glass art- and created beautiful lampshades and decorative pieces to adorn her lovely home.
During her life on the Peninsula, JoAnne was involved in some community endeavor. She generously volunteered at Riverside Hospital, the Anheuser Busch Golf Classic, the Mill Point Homeowners Association, and the Virginia Air and Space Museum. Her professional life included interior design and decorating, bookkeeping, property management, and small business ownership.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her mother Fyana Cook Edwards, father Elmer H. Cook, husbands Robert Joseph Politi and Raphael Aaron Saville, and longtime companion Jack B. Adams.
JoAnne is survived by and will be greatly missed by her loving family: daughters, Teri Lynne Politi and partner Shay Dirmeyer, Debra P. Hudacek and husband John S. Hudacek; son, Robert J. Politi, Jr.; grandson John S. Hudacek, Jr. and wife Libby; granddaughter Stephanie D. Hudacek and husband Taylor Bates; and three beautiful great-grandchildren who lit up her world; Sydney Davis Bates, Henley Amanda Hudacek, and Benjamin Taylor Bates.
A celebration of JoAnne's life will be held Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home at 12:30 pm. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will gather with friends following the service at Second St. Restaurant, 115 Arthur Way, Newport News.
