

John William Crabtree went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2023, at the age of 84 in Hampton, Virginia. He was born on June 14, 1939, in Dickenson County. Johny was an amazing strong willed man who took pride in his work and had his own way of doing things. He was so highly respected.
In his personal and family relationships, Johny is survived by his partner for life, Peggy Dunston; his stepchildren: Brenda West, Johnny Glenn, Becky and Mike Hudgins, Tina and Matt Haag, and Rena Pulley and Crawford Hammond; and all of the Crabtree family and friends. He also had a special bond with his grandchildren: Aaron Glenn, Brian West Jr., Travis Glenn, Emie Lou Croom, Matthew Marshall, Johnathon Killmon, Jessica England, Amber Haag, and all of their families, whom he loved and he claimed as his own.
Johny was preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie Mullins Crabtree; father, Charlie Crabtree; his Crabtree siblings and friends; and Tina's mother, Rose Deuell. He also mourned the loss of his granddaughter, Morgan K. Glenn, who gave him the name "Patpa."
Johny had various ventures throughout his life. He served in the military as an Army Sergeant at Fort Monroe for four years, demonstrating his dedication and commitment. After his military service, he pursued a successful career. He had his own restaurant and service station. Later on, he started Johny's Contracting and Machine Shop--the gathering place on Sundays with his buddies). Working with his hands was a blessing to many, and he left a lasting mark on the community he served.
In his free time, Johny had a passion for working on old cars and attending car shows. He also enjoyed fishing on his boat, "The Rose Marie," and engaging in demolition work: operating bulldozers, cranes, tractor trailers, and dump trucks. He also enjoyed working in the yard and cutting grass.
John William Crabtree will be remembered as a devoted partner, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His strong work ethic and love for his family and hobbies will forever be cherished by his loved ones and friends.
