

Karin, 83, was a hero to all who knew her. She was insightful, intelligent, and charismatic.
Karin was born in Munich, Germany on February 19, 1937 to Sebastian and Katherina Lohmeier and was one of five siblings. She met and married an Air Force man while he was stationed in Ramstein near Kaiserslautern, Germany and immigrated to the United States in March 1958. Karin found her new home in America, gave birth to two children, and became a proud citizen in 1964. On July 10, 1981 Karin remarried to Jerry Lugar, a retired Navy man from Stewardson, Illinois. The two further extended roots in Coastal Virginia.
Karin worked for Sears & Roebuck as a clerk in their Parts Department store and retired in 1992. She received multiple awards and commendations for sales and achieving “Salesperson of the Quarter” multiple times during her career. Karin enjoyed cooking, gardening, tole painting, dancing, reading, and working in her yard. She loved all types of music, opera, and country western were a particular delight. She followed and supported her son’s alma mater, Virginia Tech and enjoyed watching the Hokies Football games. Karin’s cooking skills were stellar. She would make incredible meals and offered up authentic German specialties like Pfannkuchen (Pancake Soup) and Purple cabbage. She loved the honor of being a home maker and excelled at it.
Karin was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, and a grandson. Karin is survived by Jerry, her husband, of Hampton, VA; her daughter, Gabriele Bryson (John) of Yorktown, VA; her son, David Lohmeier (Deborah) of Suffolk, VA; her grandsons, Jeremy Bryson (Samantha) of Gloucester, VA and Nicholas Bryson of Hampton, VA; and her great-granddaughter, Madison Bryson.
Funeral services will be private and have been entrusted to Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
