Born in Hawaii, raised in Michigan, and residing in Virginia to help with her grand-babies, Kathy was one of the most loving, caring and nonjudgmental people you’d ever meet.
Her passion was helping others, especially children. From working in an elementary school office, handling after school programs, or running a child day care, she was the go to person when you needed someone to look out and care for your kid(s). Later in life, after her three girls were grown, she decided to go back to school to become an RN, with a main focus in adolescent behavioral health. She had a gentleness that helped so many calm down and work through a mental crisis.
When Kathy wasn’t helping others she was spending every minute possible with her grandbabies. She was their door dash buddy, their book buyer, the one who said yes after their moms said no, and their biggest cheerleader. She enjoyed watching them accept honors at school, rank up in cub and boy scouts, cheer from the stands while watching them on the wrestling mats, football fields, field hockey fields, cross country courses, and enjoyed Facetiming even though she hated being on camera.
She is predeceased by her parents Michael and Barbara Callahan, and uncles Tony Yantz and Mike Zajas.
Kathy is survived by her three girls, Melissa Callahan, Rebecca Turner (Tom), and Barb Gorno (Dominic). Along with her cherished grandbabies: Nathan and Jacob Heineman, Kamie and DJ Gorno, Michaela Zasadny and Emily Turner. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Callahan (Heather), her nephews Jeremy Callahan (Stephanie) their three daughters, Savanna, Ava, and Chloe; Michael Callahan (Megan) and their two daughters, Lilah and Violet; and niece Christa Callahan, along with her aunts Kathy Zajas, Renee Yantz, and Claudette Mathews (Gene).
