She was born on April 20, 1915 in the middle of World War I. She survived the worldwide flu epidemic, The Great Depression, World War II, the Sixties, and thirty years of widowhood after her beloved husband passed away with emphysema.
She was a faithful and devoted Christian and member of several Sunday school classes. She loved the Lord and had a pure heart but could get feisty, just like her sisters. She loved children and they loved her. She was a great cook and gardener and had a host of friends who loved her.
When her husband was transferred from Fort Knox to Fort Monroe, it just about killed her to leave her sisters and brother behind, since they loved nothing better than to get together and socialize, laugh, and reminisce. She only got to visit them once a year for two weeks in the summer during my dad’s vacation but she stayed devoted to both me and my dad.
She was a great mother and wife. My dad once said of her “She’s the best woman I ever knew”. I would add to that she was the best person I ever knew and she will be sorely missed by all who loved her, until we’re reunited someday in Heaven. I know that’s where she went.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, William Sanford Bruce; brother, Troy Hill; and six sisters, Sylvia H. Creel, Ruby H. Spaulding, Lorene H. Ruston, Lucille Hill, Capitola H. Davis, and Helen H. Rogers. She is survived by her son, David Engel Bruce and his fiancée, Cynthia Joy; and nieces and nephews, Glenna, Charlotte Ford, Jack Rogers, Jill Martin, Tom Rogers, Clifford, Robert Davis, Little Helen, Jimmy Baird, and Johnny Baird.
