I also want to thank Dr. Herre and the doctors and nurses at the Heart hospital CICU. They were so unbelievably kind, compassionate, attentive and patient with my dad (and us) during the past few very difficult weeks. We sincerely appreciate you. Thank you.

My heart has been ripped from my chest. My dad was one of my absolute best friends and the strongest man I know. I had the Pastor read some kind words and great stories, but one thing I forgot to mention was my parents’ love for each other. It was one of a kind. And I always hoped that one day I would have that kind of love. Their love for each other and care for each other was on a different level. My mother’s care for my father was  a beautiful thing to witness. She is the reason we were blessed to have my dad for so many years, especially after his heart transplant. She cared for him, fed him according to his strict diet, maintained all his immunosuppressants, maintained his oxygen, maintained all his appointments, got him to the ER when she knew something was wrong (even though he would say he was fine and “just wanted to sleep”), and also kept him in line. And, boy, was he a handful. He was so selfless, he didn’t want to inconvenience anyone, even when he was insanely sick. But his love for her was just as beautiful to witness. I was blessed to spend the last 3 years of his life with him (living with him and mom) and I was extremely blessed to help care for him. It was an absolute honor to care for the man that raised me, loved me, protected me, and gave me all the love a father could give a daughter, and then some. No one on this planet deserved a new heart and a second chance at life more than my father. And thank you to the young man (donor) that made that possible. And thank you to everyone who has helped me through this, and to everyone who was a huge part of caring for my father, spending countless hours at the ER with my him, picking up prescriptions, taking him to appointments, hanging out with him, and for loving him just as much as we did, especially Sam, Shari, Bob and Merious. You all are Angels here on earth. And thank you Kara, for always being there when I need you. And thank you mom for loving my father the way you did.

Uncle Lurch was one of those rare people who could light up a room without even trying. His sense of humor, easy smile, and kind heart made everyone feel welcome and at ease. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather who adored his family beyond measure.

His laughter will echo in our memories, his smile will stay with us always, and his love will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Rest easy, Uncle Lurch. ❤️

I have gotten to know Ken over the past 2 1/2 years and I feel blessed for the time I got to know him. I have learned many things about him but the thing that stands out the most was his generosity toward others. Ken's personality was one of a kind. I would love to thank the Mirick family for accepting me as part of their wonderful family. May God grant each and everyone one of you with strength, peace and most of all love in this moment of grief.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Mirick family. Ken was an extraordinary person and an invaluable member of our team at the Weapons Quality Engineering Center, Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. His optimism, professionalism, and unwavering can-do spirit lifted all of us and enhanced the work we shared. We were truly blessed that our lives intersected with his. May light eternal shine upon dear Ken.

Dear Deb, Valerie and Jennifer;
  My heart is so broken over the loss of Kenny. He was such a blessing to our family. He was the kindest most loving, cousin and now they are all together in Heaven. May God watch over all of you now in the days ahead and bring you peace. Sending all my love to you.

We lost a great man and a great neighbor.  Ken and I would debate who was the better franchise, the Red Sox or the Yankees. He was funny, kind, and considerate. He was a dedicated Navy civilian. RIP shipmate. You are missed.
