

Kenneth A. Mirick of Yorktown Virginia passed away on January 16, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born June 27, 1946 he leaves to cherish his wife of 55 years, Deborah Mirick, his two daughters, Valerie Mccandless (Casey), Jennifer Mirick, grandchildren, Brennon Grover, Haileigh, Connor, Casey, Blake and Hayden McCandless. Many nieces and nephews in Virginia and Massachusetts. He loved his family very much.
He was preceded in death by his father, Laurence F. Mirick, of Rockland, Massachusetts, his mother, Virginia L. Mirick, of Quincy, Massachusetts, his brothers, Laurence Mirick, Glenn Mirick, and Wayne Mirick of Massachusetts, and his cousin, Marian Ciccarella of Braintree, Massachusetts.
He retired from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station in February 2009. His career began with the United States Air Force in 1966, Haynes Furniture in Newport News, John Hancock Insurance, Newport News Shipbuilding, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station.
He was blessed to be the recipient of a donor heart at Sentara Heart Hospital in 2009. We are eternally grateful to his organ donor for giving us many more years and wonderful memories with Ken. The family would like to thank Dr. John Herre, Dr. Gretchen Brayman, his heart donor, Sentara Heart Hospital staff, Shari Royal, Samantha Pappalardo, Riverside Home Health, Marybeth Morgan, our wonderful neighbors including Bob Zimmerman, Katelyn Newsome, Merious Priddy and his family for their continued support over the years.
He enjoyed playing his guitars, fishing trips, his workouts at Riverside Wellness Center, vacations in Nags Head, mowing neighborhood lawns, working in his yard, and his time with family. His sense of humor, love for his family, and strong determination for life will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Donate Life America.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia, in the Chapel, for a visitation on January 27, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on January 28, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place at the same venue on January 28, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by interment at Parklawn Memorial Park.
