

Laurence Gordon Henry, born on August 2, 1933, in Jamaica, West Indies, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, in Hampton, Virginia, at the age of 90. Laurence was a cherished figure in his family, migrating from Jamaica to Canada, and then to Brooklyn, New York, before finally retiring in Florida with his beloved wife, Cynthia, to whom he was married for 54 years.
Laurence's early years in Jamaica were marked by his role as a supportive big brother among his 9 siblings, often taking them to shows and later caring for his parents in their elder years. His professional journey included dedicated service as a nurse in Canada and later as a tester for a phone company in New York, a position he held for 25 years.
In retirement, Laurence found joy in cruising and gardening, hobbies that brought him immense pleasure and peace. His commitment to his community was evident through his over 20 years of service as an usher at Grace Fellowship Church in West Palm Beach, Florida.
He leaves behind his wife, Cynthia; children, Howard and his wife Tamishia, Dawn, and Angela; sisters, Madge, Linda, Beverly, and Barbara; grandchildren, Nicole, Jayla, Tamara, Tekla, Melchizedek, Tamekia, Gabriel, Malika, Tatiyanna, and Shaquana; 10 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Laurence was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Emelyn; brothers, Lloyd and Seton; and sisters, Cynthia, Sylvia, and Herbie.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00 am at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666. The Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton, Virginia, is assisting the family during this time. Laurence's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, as a devoted family man, a faithful servant, and a joyful gardener and traveler.
