Lawrence “Larry” A. Shellhammer, USAF, CMSgt.(ret.), 75, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in Hampton. Chief Shellhammer served in the USAF for 32 years including 8 years as Senior Enlisted Advisor with the Air Force Office of Special Investigation and the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing. After retiring, he started another career with MetLife and then went into real estate. He was very active in the AFA for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Yvonne, daughters Laura Fruehan and husband Paul of Pittsburgh, Pennsylavania; Donna Wilson and husband Russ of Anchorage, Alaska and son Larry Shellhammer, Jr. and wife Michelle of Cameron, North Carolina; three grandsons, Christopher Wilson and wife Trista, Daniel Fruehan and Andrew Fruehan; and one great-grandson, Ashton Wilson.
A Memorial Celebrating Larry’s life will be held Tuesday, June 1, at 4 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, 23666. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors will be at a later date.
