

Lester retired from VDOT on February 1, 1995 as a Traffic Control Supervisor after 19 years of service. He was a devoted family man, enjoying time with his children and grandchildren and remained close to his extended family in Waynesboro. He was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed collecting memorabilia from his youth. Lester had an extensive oil lamp collection and was an avid collector of coins and Virginia Metalcraft products.
Lester served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Glen Kirk Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, VA.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Shirley S. Fisher; parents, Lionel C. and Cleo Victoria Fisher; grandson, Christopher L. Fisher; brothers, Calvin W., Cleveland, Thomas A. and Alfred F. Fisher; sisters, Carrie “Nora”, Ethel, Rachel Delma and Emma Beatrice Fisher; Nadine Christine Jackson and Bessie Thelma Farrar. He is survived by three sons, Greg and Kathy Fisher, Randy Fisher, Bruce and Wendy Fisher; daughter, Sharon Ann Fisher; grandchildren, Melissa Wellington, Jason Bates, Marie Lawhorn, Brett Fisher, Michelle Fisher, Timothy Chisholm, John Chisholm, Jessie Fisher, Madeline Fisher, Douglas Fisher; great-grandchildren, Jacob Futrell, T.J. Koonce, Jahden Jackson, Makailynn Hoke, Josh Paul, Maverick Bates, Garrett Chisholm; many nieces and nephews; and his devoted companion, Molly the Beagle.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Lester’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, at the funeral home. Interment will be held 10:30 am, Thursday, March 31 in Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
