Lloyd resided in Virginia all of his life and found a home and life there. He held a prestigious position at the C&O Railroad for many years and then made the decision to focus solely on his career at the Newport News Shipyard until he retired as a Pipe Planning Supervisor in 2000. He was a member of Denbigh Presbyterian. He spent many years coaching basketball in Newport news Recreation Youth Leagues. He then went on to being a scorekeeper for Newport news Women's Softball Leagues. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed the beach. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Peninsula Retired Men's Club.
Lloyd is survived by his son Kevin Martin and his wife Jackie of Newport News; his brother Lee, John (Becky), Kurt (Cathy) and his sister Janice Myers; his grandchildren Cameron Holt (Jamie), Ian Elliott (Lauren), his great grandchildren Elenora and Ruby, and many, many nieces and nephews as well as a large extended “adopted” family and friends to treasure his memory.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Shirley, as well as his parents; Margaret and Lloyd Andrew Martin Sr.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Parklawn Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666. The Martin's will receive friends and family on Friday September 23rd, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Life service at 2:00PM with a graveside committal to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations be made in Lloyd's honor to The First Tee - Virginia Peninsula, 1003 Brick Kiln Blvd,. Newport News, VA 23602 (Attention: Noelle Larson). "A youth development organization that enables kids to build strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges".
