

On February 12, 2023, Louise Zehrbach Atwell, a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many passed away at age 99. She was born on January 9th, 1924 to Aileen and Louis Zehrbach.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Frederick W. Atwell of Hampton, Virginia.
Louise is survived by her three children: Cynthia A. Walker (Gene Madray) of Carrollton, Louis F. Atwell (Mary Hunter Curry) of Hampton, and Bonnie A. Wilson (Michael) of Carrollton; three grandchildren: Bryan Wilson (Kristy) of Smithfield, Matthew Wilson (Shawn) of Newport News, and Jordan Wilson (Melissa) of Smithfield; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Page Jenkins of Hampton.
She is a graduate of Hampton High School, and in the late 1960s, she went back to school for a degree in nursing at Riverside Regional, where she continued her employment for several years.
She was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, and she enjoyed her “Joy” Sunday School Class, as well as working with the Young Married Group. She got great pleasure from hosting many events with church and her family.
Her family is grateful for the excellent care she received at Riverside Healthy Living (Magnolia Manor) for the past year, and they extend their sincere gratitude to the Riverside Hospice team.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666. A reception will be held at 11:00 AM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, and an interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666.
