

Malcolm retired on January 1, 2001 as Battalion Chief for the City of Hampton Fire Department after 32 years of service. He was a member of Warwick Assembly of God, Fellowship of Christian Firefighters Association, and Christian Motorcyclists Association. Malcolm was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.
Malcolm was preceded in rest by his wife, Phyllis Zane Garris and his parents, Herbert and Eva Garris. He is survived by his son, Raymond Garris and wife, Shannon; daughter, Heather Matthews and husband, Kevin; four grandchildren, Kevin L. Matthews, Jr., Cody R. Garris, Kayla L. Matthews, Chad M. Garris; brother, J.W. Garris; two sisters, Frances May Brooks and Lyndell Garris Shields; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Malcolm’s life will be held at 10 am on October 8, at Warwick Assembly of God, 1228 Todds Lane, in Hampton, officiated by Pastor Jim Rodriguez. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park with honors rendered by the City of Hampton Fire Color Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
