Marie Sparrow Saunders

A native of Gwynn’s Island in Mathews County and a resident of Hampton for 64 years. Marie was born on July 17, 1925 to the late M. Ruth Callis and Vincent R. Sparrow.

Marie was a wonderful mother who truly loved her husband, children, grandchildren and family above all else. Holidays and special occasions spent with her family were moments to be treasured; she especially enjoyed her regular Sunday morning visits from her “boys”. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. She will always be in our hearts.

Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Jim S. Saunders who was devoted to her. Left to treasure and honor her memory are her four sons, Norman A. Saunders “Jack” and Debbie, Charles E. Jenkins, Jr. “Rusty” and wife Kathy, Richard W. Jenkins and wife Linda, and Jim V. Saunders and wife Misty; grandchildren, Robert C. Jenkins, Amanda L. Jenkins, Richard W. Jenkins, Jr., Jake V. Saunders, Katie M. Saunders, and Christopher R. Savage; great grandson’s, Jacob Jenkins and Ryan Jenkins; and brother, Robert Sparrow.

A private family Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation in Marie’s name to Buckroe Beach Fire Company.
