

She was born on March 31st, 1921 in Gem, Kansas to Norman and Inez Jensen. Marjorie graduated from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, receiving a degree in Christian Education. Her marriage to Murray Alvin Collins, Jr. on June 21, 1947 continued until Alvin’s death in 2003. She had been a Hampton resident since graduating from the seminary and joining the first Presbyterian Church of Hampton in the 1940’s.
Marjorie’s life was dedicated to her family, the church and its ministry. She was the Director of Christian Education at the First Presbyterian Church of Hampton, the office manager for Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center and a teacher’s special assistant in the Hampton Schools. She was elected to be one of the first women elders of her church and stayed active in all aspects of the church as long as she was able. She was also active in her East Hampton community and a member of the local Garden Club.
Marjorie is survived by her two children, Myrna Hathaway of Canton, Michigan and Mac Collins of Newport News, Virginia. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service, Saturday, March 30th, at 2:30 pm in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church on 514 S. Armistead Avenue, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall which will commemorate and celebrate Marjorie’s life.
