Born in Huntington, West Virginia, Mark made Newport News his home for many years, dedicating his life to service and community. As a firefighter, he was known not only for his bravery but also for his sense of humor and camaraderie—especially as the firehouse cook, where his meals brought comfort and joy to his fellow firefighters.
Mark had a deep love for the outdoors and a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles, often finding peace on the open road. He was also a devoted animal lover, sharing his life over the years with his cherished rescue Afghan Hound, a loyal Rottweiler named Lacey, a spirited Chihuahua named Hana, a parrot named Taco, and his surviving Chihuahua, Bean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Hobart Ross, whose memory he carried with him always. Mark is survived by his cousins and a close circle of friends who will forever miss his storytelling, his laughter, and the steadfast friendship he offered so freely.
A graveside service to honor Mark’s life will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 1:00 pm. His legacy of kindness, courage, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
