Mary Joyce Adams

Mary Joyce Adams (Joyce) was born to Marvin Dennis Barbrey and Beulah Powell Barbrey, on September 21, 1942 in Clinton, North Carolina. She passed on Saturday, October 7, 2023 after a short illness, at the age of 81. Her daughters and grandchildren mourn the loss of her, but are happy she is reunited with her husband (aka as daddy and pa).

Joyce is survived by her daughters: Elaine Adams of Watkinsville, GA (Randy Landry), Hope Adams of Richmond, VA and Jamie Adams Lilley of Yorktown, VA (Ed Lilley); her grandchildren: Adam Lilley (Evan Bunting Lilley), Savannah Landry (Nick Miller) and Liam Landry; and her great-grandchildren: Ellis Lilley and Parker Lilley; her brother Jerry Wayne Barbrey (Sharon Barbrey) and Ricky Powell (Wanda West Powell); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Thomas Adams (DOD: January 6, 2023), her parents Marvin and Beulah Barbrey and her brothers Marvin “Red” Barbrey and William “Sherrill” Barbrey.

Joyce moved from Clinton, NC to Hampton, VA in her pre-teen years and was a lifelong Hampton resident before moving to Yorktown five years ago. Joyce was a long-time member of Langley Baptist Church. Joyce loved her family, cooking, spending time with the family dogs Zeek and Summer, going to the movies and out to eat. Joyce was known for her chicken salad, potato salad, banana pudding and her weekly hair salon appointments.

Joyce’s family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, respiratory therapists and doctors at Williamsburg Sentara Hospital for the wonderful care they provided to her and the care they showed the family during such a difficult time.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joyce’s name to Langley Baptist Church, 116 E. Little Back River Road, Hampton VA 23669.
