Mary Lorraine Pratt Foster, beloved mother and grandmother, resident of Newport News, went to be with our lord on December 22, 2013 while at her home in Newport News. She was born in Ceredo, West Virginia and lived most of her adult life in Hampton and Newport News. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Hampton. She worked for many years as a telephone operator for both civil service and private companies prior to retiring.
Her greatest joy was motherhood. She raised her three daughters with love and devotion and was always ready with concern and a sympathetic ear for them. She was a talented seamstress who would spend countless hours making fine quality clothing for her daughters and later for her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook who made decades of delicious meals and desserts. She loved gardening and caring for her beautiful coral azaleas. She never lost her love for the simple pleasures in life like the joy of feeling the warm sun on her face. But most of all, she loved her family. Her passing leaves a void never to be filled. She will be eternally loved, forever missed and never forgotten.
Lorraine is preceded in rest by her parents, Luther Martin Pratt and Anna Marie Bolt Pratt, her sisters Laurie Pratt Adkins, Helen Pratt Jobe, Margaret Pratt Booth, Wanda Lee Pratt Maynard and her brother Frederick Pratt. She is survived by her sister Thelma Pratt Edwards and 2 brothers, Luther M Pratt Jr. and Samuel Pratt, 3 daughters, Lisa Foster Ausura and her husband Edward D. Ausura, Doris “Darcie” Foster Akin and her husband Larry J Akin and Laura Foster Pard, 10 grandchildren, Mary Ausura Selvy, William ”Will” Foster, David Ausura, Andrew Pard, Rachel Ausura, Sarah Ausura, Katherine Ausura, Bethany Ausura, Bradley Pard and Matthew Foster, and 2 great grandchildren, Michael Selvy and Madison Selvy and many furry grandkids.
A Celebration of Mary's life will be held on Saturday, December 28th, 2013 at 11:00 am at Saint Marks Episcopal Church with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
