Michael Eugene Griffin

Michael Eugene Griffin, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of Monroe, NC and a resident of Hampton for 24 years. He was a member of Full Gospel Worship Center where he served as an usher and Sunday school teacher.

Michael retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service as a P-3 Orion flight engineer and maintenance technician. During his military service he achieved the level of E-7 or CPO and was awarded several commendations including the National Defense, Navy Achievement, and two battle E awards. In August of 2010, after continuing his career as an aircraft worker, he retired a second time. After 15 years of service as a test cell operator for Fleet Readiness Center – East, Cherry Point, NC.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Jewell F. Griffin and step-mother, Frances Virginia Griffin. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda J. Griffin; children, Paul C. Griffin and wife Ebonie of Hampton, John T. Griffin and wife Renee of Ansbach, Germany, and Kathy M. Griffin of Hampton; grandchildren, Nicholas A. Griffin, Marissa E. Griffin, Shawn T. Griffin, and Amanda M. Griffin; brothers, James Kenneth Griffin and wife Barbara, and Stephen Wayne Griffin and wife Gloria; sister, Donna Griffin; step-sisters, Nancy Haley, Patricia Dawley, Debbie Heckert, and Karen VanOstrand.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Monday, March 11, at 11:00 am, at the funeral home with Pastor Gino Bryant presiding. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park with military honors.
