

Mildred Horn Dixon, 91, passed into the care of the Lord on Monday, May 9, 2011. Born March 18, 1920 in Donalsonville, Georgia, she was a longtime resident of Newport News, and for the last 23 years of Gloucester County.
She will be greatly missed by her sons, James Dixon and wife Pat, and Carl Dixon and his wife Helen; and grandchildren, Thomas Dixon, Craig Dixon, and Debra Spinsic. She was blessed with great-grandchildren, Brent Hurter, Woody Dixon, and Heather Dixon. Mildred was the 12th child in a family of 13 and is survived by her sister, Maggie Powell. Her extended family, Victoria and George Butts, and Richard and Katrina Hutsko and daughters, Kristina and Alexis will also miss her deeply.
Mildred was predeceased by her parents, Isaac K. Horn and Emla Adeline Johnson Horn of Donalsonville, Georgia, and by her daughter, Linda Jeanette Dixon.
Mildred retired from Coats & Clark in 1983. Her friendships with her co-workers were a source of pride and comfort that endured to the end. After retiring from Coats & Clark she worked for many years at Season's Greetings. Mildred's greatest love and passion was caring for and loving her family, and being a devoted mother and grandmother.
The family would like to thank the staff at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital for their support and kindness.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A service celebrating Mildred's life will be held Thursday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
