Mildred Ruth Huckless

Mildred Ruth Ross Huckless, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021. She was born on Aug 26, 1933, to Minnie and Garvey Ross of Cartersville, Virginia. She was the youngest daughter and well loved by her older sisters Mabel, Nancy and Mary. Mildred graduated from Cumberland County High School and soon after, married her high school sweetheart, John Huckless, on July 18, 1954.

Most of all, Mildred loved her family, and throughout John’s 27 year Air Force career, she was the true organizer of the family, behind the scenes, ensuring their children were always prepared to meet the challenges of each new duty location. Mildred loved traveling and the family lived in numerous places including Texas, New York, New Jersey and even Turkey. They later retired in Virginia, and preceding John’s death, enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Mildred loved to cook and doted on her many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her apartment was filled with so many pictures of the children during their many graduation ceremonies, in military and police uniforms and their weddings. She treasured and saved every birthday card, jewelry and handmade gifts from her grandchildren.

Mildred and John had five children, John Jr. (deceased), Debra Arlene Hall (Irvin), Michael, Teresa Cresic (Robert) and Marc (Rachel). Mildred was also blessed to have grandchildren: Shawn, Justin, Danielle, Lindsey, Alyssa, Tyrese, Jadon, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held July 6 2021, at 10 am at Parklawn Funeral Home in Hampton, Virginia, followed by a burial service at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
