

Ralph Wayne Campbell, 76, passed away peacefully after a long illness on 20 January, 2025, at his home in Hampton. Born on January 7, 1949, to parents, Willie and Daisy Campbell in Greenville, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gene and Clarence, and sister, Pansy. He is survived by his soul mate of 50 years, his wife, Patricia. He is also survived by his Brother Lester, his Brothers-In-Law, John Murray and Randy (Diane) Mathews and his beloved rescue buddy, Cole. In addition, he leaves his memories to his many nieces, nephews, and cousins and their children.
Ralph lived in Hampton for most of his life. He graduated from Kecoughtan High School, Class of 67. Several years later, he achieved his Bachelor’s degree in Business at Christopher Newport University. Following high school, he was soon diverted by threat of US gov “draft” to join the US Navy where he earned the distinctive rank of Boatswain’s mate, the backbone of the ship’s crew. Returning to civilian life, he started his career in shipbuilding, ascending to become a production controller at NN Shipbuilding in Newport News where he accumulated a 40 plus year career before retiring in 2015.
Ralph an avid reader, loved the game of golf, and always enjoyed his thrifty store treasure hunting. Most importantly, he so enjoyed his social activities and being with people, evidenced by his numerous memberships in professional organizations to include the Propeller Club, Mariners Club, Fleet Reserve, VFW Auxiliary, and Elks Club 366. Also, an active member of Kecoughtan HS Alumni, he happily hosted the 50th and 55th class reunions at his home.
The family would like to thank his hospice nurse, Amie Lindsay, for her gentle touch and Mary Lou Cicero, our guiding nurse, that navigated for us through many trying difficulties for months. Special mention to Lester, Joe, Jennette, nieces Leah and Larissa, Bernadette, Jeff for the loving care when it was most needed.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Park, Indoor Mausoleum Chapel, 2551 North Armistead, Hampton, VA, at 1100, on 30 January 2025, Funeral service on site at 1200, and a Mausoleum interment ceremony at 1300 close by. The family then invites all family and friends to the Campbell’s North Mallory Street Hampton home for a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to the Animal Aide Society, Hampton, Virginia. Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, Hampton, Virginia.
