

Renee Walden Purvis, 51, departed this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at her home in Hampton, Virginia after a long battle with Breast Cancer. She was preceded in death by her mother Eunice Dickerson Reid and her father Square Walden both of Conway, North Carolina.
Renee was born on February 4, 1962 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and grew up in Conway, North Carolina. She attended the Northampton County (NC) public schools and graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Nutrition and a Master’s Degree in Food, Nutrition, and Institutional Management.
Renee loved children. She was dedicated to school food service and child nutrition. She worked in Pitt, Beaufort and Martin County Schools in North Carolina and Isle of Wight, Franklin, and Suffolk Public Schools in Virginia. Renee had a very strong and loving spirit. Her passions were reading, crocheting and her family. She loved her work with all of the children that she encountered on a daily basis.
Renee is survived by her loving husband, Richard and her precious daughter, Morgan, both of Hampton, her uncle, Wallace “Bud” Dickerson, cousins Sean Boone (Bonnie) and Samuel Boone (Cornelia) all of Conway NC, brother- in- law, Reginald Purvis (Renee) of Danville,Virginia, sister - in - law, Patricia Hutteman (Lucas) of Charlotte, North Carolina and grandmother-in-law, Dorothy (Big Ma) Cash of Lynchburg,Virginia, and three beloved best friends, Donald Maddrey of Lorton, Virginia, Pamela Chavous (Dr. Arnie Wynn) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Penny Boyette of Pink Hill, North Carolina. “To my BEST friends from childhood and East Carolina University, keep me close to you forever with the purple and gold blankets I crocheted for you with love.”
Renee will be missed by all of her family and friends. She touched so many hearts and souls in her life. She was a strong fighter of her disease and is now in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. May she rest in peace and walk along side of her beloved mother. We love you with all of our hearts.
The Family
The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 am on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a celebration of Renee's life to begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
