He was a resident of Southeastern Virginia Training Center for 42 years and loved his family there and they loved him back. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Joan Hickey, and Councill and Ruth Rountree. He is survived by his mother, Joan Brown (Wayne), father, Bob Hickey (Debbie); sisters, Marisa and Jessica; aunts, Sue Black (Doug), Joanne Terrell (Gary), Patricia Ghannam (Mahmoud); uncle, Tom Hickey; cousins, Kim, Karen, Jenny, Brett, Josh, Jordan, Evan, Ryan, Emily, and their families; 3 nieces; 1 nephew; as well as a large extended family.
His family at SEVTC was amazing and a special thank you to 104 Touchstone staff and nurses for their unwavering care and love, and all the departments that supported him. Bobby loved being outside riding in the jogging stroller with Kyle or Joel pushing him and the wind in his face; just one of many wonderful experiences in his life. He had a hearty laugh, loved attention, head rubs, could be mischievous, and if you were close he wanted to be even closer to you, so forget the idea of personal space!
With much regret, due to COVID concerns, burial will be private but with hopes for a celebration of life at a future time when possible. Please take a moment to recognize our special needs/intellectually disabled as they can give us great joy in life. They need love too. Rest in peace Bobby. In his memory consider a donation to either of the following or a charity of your choice. Angelman Syndrome Foundation or SEVTC Volunteer Services (2100 Steppingstone Square, Chesapeake Va 23320).
Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va 23666.
