Duke was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Vera Mae. He is survived by his son, Harold "Ozzy" Lee.
Duke served as an M.P. in the 41st Division of the 5th Army. He was in combat in North Africa, Anzio, and Italy. Duke also served in the C.I.D. for the Army. He later joined the Hampton Police Auxiliary where he rose to the rank of Captain. Anyone who went to Langley Speedway had to pass Duke and Vera at some point. Duke was a certified NASCAR official for almost 50 years. Major General John Sylvester presented Duke a plaque of appreciation for 50 years of service as the barber to soldiers at Fort Monroe.
Graveside services will be announced in the newspaper at a later date.
