Bob passed away peacefully at home with his family on Friday, April 27, 2018. He was born July 29th 1935 in Glens Falls, New York, and settled in Hampton in 1975. Bob served in the US Air Force from 1955-1959. He operated a crane for Parkview Supply and dump trucks for Basic Construction for many years; however, his love for fire/rescue, both as an employee and volunteer was his lifelong passion.
In most recent years, he worked as a City of Hampton Crossing Guard. It is clear from his many accolades that he was well loved by the children he protected for over five years.
Bob had many, many friends, but was especially fond of neighbor Ms. Barbara and the entire Hampton Waffle House staff.
Bob is survived by his sons, Chester Terrill (Patricia) and Jerry Terrill (Barbara); daughters, Kathy Murphy (Ronnie) and Linda Tolley, all of the Hampton area; grandchildren, Christopher Bell, Jason Terrill, Matthew Terrill, Angela Weaver, Jimmie Bell, Jennifer Deciano, Stephanie Tolley, Jerry Terrill, Jr., Michael Terrill, Amanda Murphy, and Allison Beckman; eighteen great-grandchildren, all who lovingly knew him as “Papa”; brothers, David, Steve, and Andrew Terrill; and sister, Linda Childress.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Faye; parents, Chester J. Terrill, Jr. and Eileen Kreis Terrill; brothers, Richard and Douglas Terrill; sister, Judy Harrington; son, Robert F. Terrill, Jr.; daughter, Theresa McManus; and grandsons, Robert Terrill, III, Jonathan Terrill, and Joseph Bell.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, April 30, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Pine Chapel Baptist Church from 12:30 to 2:00 pm with a celebration of Robert’s life to follow. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
