

Known for her loving personality, dedication to her family and faith, passion for helping those in need, and her ability to deliver a tasty cuisine, Rose Mrakovich Searls, 85, loved life and left an everlasting impact in every heart that she touched. On April 7, 2017, Rose claimed the promise of the resurrection after succumbing to long term health conditions.
A first generation American of Serbian and Croatian parents and the last of twelve siblings, Rose was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A resident of Mechanicsville, VA and a previous long term resident of Newport News, VA, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Thomas Francis Searls. Her legacy continues in her two daughters and their husbands, Victoria Searls Traylor (William) and Cynthia Searls Backus (Robert); two grandchildren, Thomas James Kohlbeck and Paige Ashley Backus; one brother-in-law, Philip E. Lindstrom; two sisters-in-law, Edna Mrakovich and Jean Mrakovich; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other extended family members. Other individuals close to Rose’s heart were Aaron Kinnison, Christina Boutin, Gunnar Kohlbeck, Nancy Sykes, and Troy Traylor. Rose was a member of Yorkminster Presbyterian Church in Yorktown, VA for many years dedicating her time and talents to serve the Lord.
The family would like to thank the staff of Covenant Woods, who assisted with the care of Rose during the final time of her life. In lieu of flowers contributions are asked to be made to Yorkminster Presbyterian Church General Fund located at 6218 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, VA 23692.
A celebration of Rose’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
