

MSG Thomas Darrell Mainous, US Army, (RETIRED) passed away peacefully on September 5, 2016 at his home in Williamsburg, Virginia. Thomas was born in Hamilton, Ohio on October 16, 1931 to Preston and Mae. He lived over 30 years in Poquoson and over 14 years in Williamsburg.
Tom lead an exciting life, he left home at the age of 14 to enlist in the US Army. Tom served the US Army for over 26 years most of which was overseas. He was awarded/decorated with the National Defense Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Good Conduct Medal (6th award), Army Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the Army he worked for the US Postal Service for 20 years.
Tom’s loves included golfing and enjoying time with his friends from the Scouts Golf Club and JOUAM Lodge of Poquoson. He liked nothing more than to head to the lodge on the weekends to have breakfast and play cards with his brothers. Tom enjoyed seeing his grandchildren grow and loved supporting all of their sports and school activities.
Thomas is predeceased by his parents, Preston and Mae Mainous, and sister and brother-in-law, Bernard and Lafayette Garrett, and brother-in-law, Tom Pagliaminto.
He is survived by his wife, Hedy Mainous; son, Mark Mainous; daughter and son-in-law, Dolores Smith and Tim Smith; grandchildren, Brett, Jack and Jordan Smith; sister, Dolores Pagliaminto; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Don Mckinley; many special nieces and nephews. Tom is also survived by his loyal dog, Daisy.
