Velma was a member of Hampton Baptist Church, belonged to the Hampton Woman’s Club as well as Virginia Music Educators Association. She was the organist at Parkview Baptist, Memorial Baptist, and Hampton Baptist.
Velma was preceded in rest by her husband, Major James Paul Allison, USAF (ret.) and her parents, William Idus and Cara Woolly. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Howerton (Vince) of Hampton; two sons, James W. Allison (Pam) of Gloucester and David Allison (Lori) of Hampton; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Jones and brother-in-law, Clarence Allison, both from Arkansas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Velma’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 11, at Hampton Baptist Church. Interment will be at 2:00pm at Parklawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hampton Baptist Church Building Fund.
