On the 19th day of September, 2021 the Lord sent one of his Angels to The Gardens at Warwick Forest, Newport News, VA. His Angel had a special mission to bring home his child, Vera “Jean” Bell Edgar Kamees Denius, 91 years young, for her “Eternal Rest”.
Vera’s life began on August 5, 1930 in Opp, Alabama with her twin sister Vara. Vera, also known as Mom, Meemah, and Grandma; devoted her life to raising her six children in Roswell, NM. Here she met the love of her life, “Smokey” Denius, who treated her like a Queen. For his devotion she bestowed a blood heir, her seventh and final child.
She was known for her decisiveness and she didn’t let anyone or anything get in her way. She enjoyed working at Piccadilly in Coliseum Mall and meeting new friends. Everyone that met her fell in love with her and her infectious smile. She had a special connection with her children and grandchildren.
Vera Jean has left us with an unforgettable legacy of strength, endurance, courage and faith. Even in her weakest moments, her love still remained strong, and she was truly devoted to supporting her family. She was an outgoing soul who loved everyone she met and welcomed you into her home with open arms. We know our loss is Heaven’s gain and our lives are so much richer because she was a special part of it!
Vera Jean is preceded in death by her father, Henry David Edgar; mother, Sarah Edgar, stepmother, Carrie Edgar; and fourth son, Joseph Brian Kamees (survived by his wife, Carolyn Rice Kamees). She is also survived by her sons, Samuel Shaker Kamees, Jr. (Doris) of Harleysville, PA, Douglas Albert Kamees of Hampton, VA, Keenan Gene Kamees of FL, her only daughter, Carolyn Ivy (Tim) of Yorktown, VA, Ballard James Kamees of Hampton, VA, and Terry Allen Denius of Eugene, OR. Vera has many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Please continue to keep Vera’s family in your prayers, as she will be truly missed.
Her final wishes were to be cremated and buried beside her beloved husband Smokey.
A Graveside Service and Interment will be held on Saturday, October 2nd at 11:00 am at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Rd. Hampton, VA. Afterwards a Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held.
The family would greatly appreciate flower arrangements or trees planted in Vera's memory. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are also appreciated.
