Wallace "Wally" Lee Bass

Born in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Joseph Bass and the late Catherine Norris Hopkins of Newport News.

Wally enjoyed growing up in Buckroe Beach and graduated from Hampton High School. He studied engineering at George Washington University until he was drafted by the army.

He was a successful businessman in the Washington, D.C. area until he moved to Hampton to be closer to his family in 2021. He worked until three weeks before his death, running an asbestos removal corporation.

He is preceded in death by a son, Wallace Jeffrey Bass. Wally is survived by his daughter, Cheri Lynn Bass-Wozniak (Keith); two grandchildren, Austin Jeffrey Wozniak and Bryce Frederick Wozniak.

Wally had an extraordinary life, filled with adventure and fun. He was a very generous man and very loved by his family, many friends and business associates, including his long-time business associate, Maria Sanchez. He was an avid golfer, snow and water skier and loved watching Sunday football. He was an amazing son, father and grandfather.

Wally will be laid to rest at the Hampton National Cemetery, 99 West County Street, Hampton, VA 23663 with honors provided by the U.S. Army on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Friends are welcome to that and A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 12:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
