Dear Pam, Frank, Sarah and everyone in the family,

My heartfelt condolences to all of you on the passing of your beloved dad/dad-in-law/granddad, Fieldon. I'm so glad I finally got to meet him and spend time with him in December.  I really enjoyed hearing his World War II experiences about flying along the eastern seaboard from Cuba to Canada, on the lookout for German U-boats.  I loved looking over the family albums with him and talking with him about of all of you kids, your beloved mom, Edna, and wonderful friends Ralph and Mary-Jim.  And this past Christmas, I'm pretty sure Fieldon loved meeting his newest great-granddaughter, Avery, for the very first time!

One funny thing that comes to mind is, while we were looking at the photo albums, we came across Linda and Cliff's wedding announcement/Linda's picture – Pam, I asked your dad if he remembered your friend Linda from your growing-up years, and he said something like, “oh-oh-oh, yes, I remember Linda” - I almost started laughing because the way your dad said it, it sounded like he easily recalled the shenanigans you and Linda (and probably Joette too) used to get in together as teenagers!

Pam, another reminiscence that comes to mind about you dad is from 1979 or 1980, around your birthday.  Your dad wrote you a very sweet and very touching letter, and he was wishing you a happy birthday in it - the only thing was, the DOB your dad wrote was not your birthday!  Pam, you were reading the letter to me in your kitchen (at 1624A Varsity Loop at Cannon AFB) and you put emphasis on the incorrect DOB your dad wrote!  And, of course, we both started laughing!  (You started laughing first, not me!)  But it was truly a very sweet and very touching letter your dad wrote to you, very warm, very loving, very indicative of the wonderful man your dad was, even at age 94 - and still is, up there in Heaven now.

And this is for Fieldon up in Heaven, I know he's reading this – Fieldon, I was so glad to meet you and get to know you in December, I sort of felt like I already knew you “by extension” after all these years of knowing Pam.  Say hi to your Edna for me, I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting her at Pam and Frank's place back in 1980, along with your sons, Kevin and Khris (I haven't met your other kids Rita or Keith just yet, but I'm pretty sure that day will come).  Fieldon, both you and Edna are always remembered with love and smiles!

Fieldon has been a part of my family for 58 years.  We were so close we shared the same house in 1957. His children were my children. I feel like I have lost part of my life in his passing.  I know He and Edna are together again and I can't wait to join them. We had so much fun in the 70's when I was flying and taking Him and Khris up with me.  God must have needed him for his co-pilot more than I. :Well he's flying amoung the clouds today.
