

Wivi was born in 1931 in Copenhagen, where she spent much of her early life. In 2001 she married M.O. Detlie. They enjoyed spending time between Denmark and Hampton. After M.O.’s passing in 2010, Wivi decided to make Hampton her permanent residence.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Jorgen Fredricksen; her second husband, M.O. Detlie; her mother, Ella Pedersen; her father, Cay Pelt; her daughter, Hanne; her sister, Henny Ornebjerghus; her brother, Harly Pedersen; and her grandnephew, Erik Sorensen.
Wivi lived a long and storied life in both Denmark and the United States. She traveled the world with Jorgen, embracing many adventures and forming lasting friendships along the way.
She worked at the British and Chilean Embassies in Copenhagen. After retiring, she translated books from Spanish and English into Danish and worked as a tour guide in Copenhagen. After moving to Hampton, she volunteered as a docent at Fort Monroe, a role she greatly enjoyed.
Wivi is survived by her nephew, Bjarne Sorensen (Shery); her grandniece, Marcy Balzer (Stephen); her great-grandnieces, Hannah and Brielle Balzer; her niece, Tina Hale (Kevin); her grandnephew, Nathan Hale; and her stepson, John Detlie.
The family will receive friends for a Visitation from 1:00PM-2:00PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026, with a Memorial service celebrating Wivi’s life to follow at 2:00PM, with a Reception to follow from 3:00PM-5:00PM, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Chapel, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
